Message from the Chairperson:
Welcome to the Chicago Chapter of the
International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety, or
Chicago Chapter IAHSS for short.
The IAHSS was founded in 1968 by a visionary group of
healthcare administrators and is a not-for-profit professional
organization of healthcare security and safety executives around the
world. Also included in
our membership are vendors offering state-of-the-art products and
services that serve to enhance security and safety programs.
The Chicago Chapter IAHSS was
established in 1969. The
Chicago Chapter IAHSS works to improve and professionalize security
and safety in healthcare facilities in the Chicagoland area.
We promote cooperation among our members and provide a forum
to discuss the challenges and complexities of protecting our
healthcare facilities.
Nine past presidents of the IAHSS have come from the Chicago Chapter
IAHSS. The International
Association’s mission statement is “advancing excellence in
healthcare security and safety worldwide.”
The Chicago Chapter IAHSS supports the International
Association by advancing excellence in healthcare security and
safety in the Chicagoland area.
Call for Chapter Officers Nominations:
The IAHSS Chicago Chapter is now accepting nominations and
applications for Chapter Officers. If you are interested in becoming
a Chapter Officer, please let us know of your interest to
participate by sending an e-mail to one of the current Chapter
Officers or by attending the next chapter meeting.
The IAHSS Chicago Chapter allows security and safety professionals
along with vendors who sell security and safety products and
services the ability to network on a local level. In challenging
economic times, the benefits of local chapter participation are
beneficial to everyone involved. Chicago Chapter involvement
provides low-cost training, resource-sharing, professional
development, networking, much more.
I would like to personally encourage each and every one of our
members to nominate someone or volunteer their own time to help the
Chicago Chapter continue its success.
“Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of
life. It's important to the person who serves as well as the
recipient. It's the way in which we ourselves grow and develop.” –
Dr. Dorothy I. Height

History of Midwest Security Conference
The Midwest
Security conference started in 1990 as a joint venture between the Chicago chapter of the
International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS)
and the Illinois Security Chiefs Association. In 1991, the Chicago
Chapter of ASIS International became the third member and these
three organizations jointly sponsored the conference through 2004.
The conference was established to provide a cost effective
conference that would be of high quality, timely in nature and
accessible to all.
